Social Action Group Rathmore

The Social Action Group Rathmore CLG are celebrating 50 years since its foundation in 1975. In the last half century the organisation has made a very significant difference to the lives of many people in the large Sliabh Luachra catchment area providing vital community services. Our activities are primarily aimed at enhancing the lives of the older people and youth in our community.

Currently, the Social Action Group Rathmore has 35 independent living housing units for older adults in the village, providing a safe living environment close to local amenities including St. Joseph’s Day Care Centre.

St. Joseph’s Day Care Centre is a 5 day service providing essential care, empowering its clients to remain in their community by choice and reducing unnecessary admission to residential care. The Day Care Centre provides an ideal setting for the older person who feels lonely or isolated and provides daytime respite to those caring for older relatives. A meals on wheels and laundry service is also provided for many older adults in our community.

Teach Iosagain, a Youth Creativity Centre, was first built in 1983 and has been extended and modernized over the years also providing a range of facilities to the local community and Youth Group.

With ever increasing operational running costs and increasing maintenance and modernisation required on buildings which are now ageing, it is getting more difficult to sustain. The funds raised from the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle will be used to maintain and enhance the services provided for our community.
