Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle for Irish Community Air Ambulance

Our Air Ambulance Crew on board our HEMS helicopter ‘Helimed92’ have been tasked to over 1,000 missions since our launch in 2019.

That’s over 1000 serious medical emergencies and trauma calls, where time was critical. The locations we fly to are often remote and the patients are often very ill or have experienced serious traumatic and often life changing injuries.

Our Purpose is To Bring Hope when time is critical and Our Vision for the future is that every person in Ireland who needs it will have rapid access to a HEMS Air Ambulance, regardless of their location.

The Irish Community Air Ambulance was launched on 31st July 2019 and is Ireland’s first and only charity-funded HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) Air Ambulance.

Upon receiving a call from the National Ambulance Service our pilot and team of Advanced Paramedics are airborne in under four minutes and can reach any location within a 30,000 square kilometre area in under 30 minutes.

One in three of our calls result in the most seriously injured and sickest patients being brought by air to the hospital that best suits their life-saving needs.

Incidents range from road traffic collisions sometimes involving cyclists, cardiac arrests and farming accidents, to equestrian incidents and falls from heights. We have brought sick children to specialist hospitals in Cork and Dublin. Since we launched we have been tasked to many of the locations along the ROK route including Cahirciveen, Waterville, Kells, Killorglin, Kenmare and Sneem, you’ll see these beautiful but very remote locations while you cycle.

Each lifesaving mission costs an average of €3,500 and as we currently receive no Government funding we are 100% reliant on fundraising and people’s generosity to fund these missions. It will cost €1.55M to fund our Air Ambulance in 2022 and through the Ring of Kerry Cycle our ambition is to raise over €100,000.

If together we can raise over €100,000 then we could fund an entire year of fuel for the helicopter. By registering for the Ring of Kerry Cycle and choosing Irish Community Air Ambulance you will playing your part in helping us to reach people when they need us most and help us to bring hope to people when time is critical.
