Breakthrough Cancer Research
Breakthrough Cancer Research is the leading cancer research charity in Ireland. We invest in world-class research to impact the quality of life for people with cancer and save lives. We are particularly focused on improving outcomes for people whose cancers are poorly served by current treatment options.
People believe the worst day they, or a loved one, will have is hearing a cancer diagnosis. However, this is not the worst day. The worst day is when the doctor tells them there is no hope. They have tried everything. There is nothing more they can do. The cure for their cancer does not exist. Breakthrough Cancer Research is working hard to make sure our family, friends and communities have access to the best treatments for cancer and never have to hear the words, there is no hope.
Our focus is on:
– Funding world-class cancer research into poor prognosis cancers, which are poorly served by current treatment options
– Facilitating collaboration between scientists and clinicians across Ireland and internationally
– Accelerating the translation of lab discoveries into new effective diagnostics and treatments for people with cancer.
Thanks to the generous support of the public and the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle we have invested millions in cancer research, funding the development of new diagnostics and treatments for cancer which has already led to 8 new treatments progressing to clinical trial. We are currently supporting over 165 researchers across the island of Ireland through public fundraising, support and generosity.
Funds raised from the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle 2025 will help fund two exciting new projects in ovarian and pancreatic cancers. Both of these cancers are difficult to diagnose and hard to treat so advances and breakthroughs are urgently needed.
Thank you for choosing Breakthrough Cancer Research as your designated Charity for the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle 2025. If you have any queries or need any support in your fundraising, please email edel@breakcancer.ie.
We are very grateful for your support.
Testimonials –Breakthrough Cancer Research
‘Taking part in the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle for Breakthrough Cancer Research was an incredible experience. I chose to do it because cancer has deeply affected my family, and raising money for such an important cause meant the world to me. The cycle itself was absolutely brilliant.
I loved every moment, from the stunning scenery to the incredible sense of camaraderie among all the riders. I was especially proud to wear the Breakthrough Cancer Research jersey, knowing I was cycling for a cause that truly matters.
Most of all, I felt so proud to be part of something that can make a real difference in the fight against cancer.
It was truly unforgettable.’
From the first donation in, from a beautiful friend that has been through cancer, to the last cent I raised, every penny meant so much, and I will be forever grateful to everyone that helped me raise funds for Breakthrough Cancer Research.
The whole reason I chose them was because of my incredible Mum, who had endometrial cancer – without the incredible researchers, I wouldn’t have my Mum today.
I came over the finish line on the day, so emotional and crying my eyes out, not because I completed the cycle, but because I could come across the finish line and FaceTime my Mum, because she was still here with me to celebrate!
The comradery, the love, the kindness and the warmth shown from the team in Breakthrough and every single person I came across on the day of the charity cycle was like nothing I have experienced before – we were all there for one purpose, to celebrate life, what we can achieve as individuals and as a community, and support people with cancer and their familiesTaking part in the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle for Breakthrough Cancer Research was an incredible experience. Last year my brother Ed and I completed the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle to raise money for Breakthrough Cancer Research. Sadly, we lost our parents to oesophageal and pancreatic cancer, so we chose to fundraise for Breakthrough Cancer Research and the challenge of cycling along one of Ireland’s most iconic routes.
It was so easy to set up the fundraising page through iDonate.ie and we were blown away by the generosity and support shown by so many. We had a brilliant day for the cycle, the weather gods smiled, and we had the craic along the way!
Many thanks to Edel Twomey from Breakthrough Cancer Research for her help throughout! We enjoyed it so much we are getting our bikes again for ROKCC 2025.
